Just Add Water!
Concrete Canvas® is part of a revolutionary new class of construction materials called Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCMs). It is a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, water proof and fire resistant concrete layer.
Essentially, it’s concrete on a roll.
What is Concrete Canvas
CC consists of a 3-dimensional fibre matrix containing a specially formulated dry concrete mix. A PVC backing on one surface of the CC ensures the material is completely water proof. CC can be hydrated either by spraying or by being fully immersed in water. Once set, the fibres reinforce the concrete, preventing crack propagation and providing a safe plastic failure mode.
CC is available in 3 thicknesses: CC5™, CC8™ and CC13™, which are respectively 5, 8 and 13mm thick.

STRONG
The fibre reinforcement prevents cracking, absorbs energy from impact and provides a stable failure mode.
DURABLE
CC is twice as abrasion resistant as standard OPC concrete, has excellent chemical resistance, good weathering performance and will not degrade in UV.
FLEXIBLE
CC has good drape characteristics and will closely follow the ground profile and fit around existing infrastructure. Unset CC can be cut or tailored using basic hand tools.
WATER PROOF
The PVC backing on one surface of the CC ensures that the material has excellent impermeability.
Application
Benefits
Rapid installation – CC can be laid at a rate of 200m2/hour, up to 10 times faster than conventional concrete solutions. The speed at which Concrete Canvas can be installed results in reduced line and lane possession for rail and road projects.
Safe and easy to install – CC is available in man portable rolls for applications with limited access. The concrete is pre-mixed so there is no need for mixing, measuring or compacting on site.
Requires minimal maintenance – CC provides excellent weed suppression, preventing the growth of root growing vegetation which cause the majority of blockages and restricted flows in channels. CC also effectively encapsulates a channel’s profile, reducing or eliminating silt generation and maintaining the hydraulic capacity of the channel.
Long-term scour protection – CC is twice as abrasion resistant as standard OPC concrete, has excellent chemical resistance, good weathering performance and will not degrade in UV.
Formats
CC is available in two standard roll sizes: bulk rolls or smaller, lighter batched rolls. The quantity per roll differs between the CC types as shown in the table below.
CC Type | Thickness (mm) | Roll Width (m) | Dry Weight (kg/m²) | Batched Roll Coverage (m²) | Batched Roll Length (m) | Bulk Roll Coverage (m²) | Bulk Roll Length (m) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
CC5 | 5 | 1.0 | 7 | 10 | 10 | 200 | 200 |
CC8 | 8 | 1.1 | 12 | 5 | 4.55 | 125 | 114 |
CC13 | 13 | 1.1 | 19 | N/A | N/A | 80 | 73 |
BULK ROLLS
Bulk rolls weigh approximately 1.5T and are supplied on 6-inch cardboard cores which can be hung from a spreader beam and unrolled using suitable plant equipment. They provide the fastest method of laying CC and reduce the number of joints required. CC bulk rolls are individually wrapped and palletised on heat treated wooden pallets measuring 1.2 x 1.0m.
BATCHED ROLLS
Batched rolls are supplied on 3-inch cardboard cores with carry handles designed as a 2 to 4-man lift. CC batched rolls are individually wrapped in airtight PE packaging and palletised. 12 batched rolls fit on a standard 1.2 x 1.0m pallet.
